What is Far Infrared?
A far infrared sauna uses infrared heaters to emit radiant heat which is absorbed directly into the human body, unlike traditional saunas that heat the body indirectly via air or steam. It is the same energy we absorb from the sun without the UV rays. SaunaRay uses ceramic heaters, which vibrate in the far infrared wave length and are completely non-toxic.The heat from the ceramic penetrates the body by 1-2 inches, triggering the sweat glands before the core body temperature rises. The thermal effect, with the layers of the tissues, causes blood vessels and capillaries to dilate, thus promoting better blood circulation. How often?
How often you use the sauna really depends on what you would like to get out of it. We would recommend at least once a week for 30 minutes to achieve important health benefits as outlined above. Please see our rates and packages page to find out what may work for you.Temperature?
The temperature of your session will be preset, but there is the option to increase or decrease the temperature according to your level of comfort. The sauna will turn off when your session is over.What to bring?
It is best to wear as little as possible like a bathing suit or cotton underwear. We ask that you bring 3 towels; bath towel to sit on, hand towel for your feet, and one to lean back on if you wish. A couple of face cloths are great as well to wipe off the toxins as you sweat them out (shower when you get home…even better). Play your favourite music CD or read a book or magazine, while in the sauna.Hydration?
It is important that you stay well hydrated during a sauna. Studies have shown that a well hydrated body sweats and burns calories much more efficiently. It is best to drink 8 oz. water before and after your sauna. Take water into the sauna, as long as it is in a paper or glass container. Using the Far Infrared Sauna
Before your first visit:
• Fill out the Registration Form• Always consult with your physician before using any sauna
• Drink plenty of water, preferably mineral or spring water
• Do not apply any lotions to your body
• Arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to prepare for the sauna
• Bring a towel to sit on and to wipe your body dry
While in the sauna:
• We preset the time and temperature for your personal settings• Wear bathing attire, shorts and T-shirt, or just underwear in the sauna
• Do not bring metal objects (cell phones, iPods, etc.) into the sauna
• You may drink water while in the sauna
• It is better to sit, not lay down, on the bench
• Relax – read a magazine or meditate
• The sauna will turn itself off automatically
• If you do not feel well (light-headed, dizzy), leave the sauna immediately
• If the symptoms do not resolve themselves, seek medical attention
After you get out of the sauna:
• Wipe sweat off with the pre-moisturized wipes, facecloth or towel• Drink plenty of water, preferably mineral or spring water
• Shower when you get home to thoroughly rinse off the sweat
• Rest – your body burned calories by increasing your heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate
